About LivePhotoTools

LivePhotoTools is a free online toolkit for working with Apple Live Photos, Android Motion Photos, and HEIC images. It covers the everyday jobs those formats make hard: turning a Live Photo into a GIF or MP4 you can share anywhere, converting HEIC photos so Windows can open them, extracting the hidden video inside a Samsung or Pixel Motion Photo, and creating Live Photos from videos and GIFs.

How our tools work

Every converter on this site runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly (a browser build of FFmpeg). When you convert a file, it is processed on your own device - nothing is uploaded to a server. That is not a marketing claim but an architectural fact: the site has no upload endpoint. It also means conversions are fast, free to operate, and work offline once the page has loaded. You can read the technical details in How LivePhotoTools Works.

Why we understand these formats

A Live Photo is not a single file - it is a paired still image (HEIC or JPEG) and a short QuickTime video that iOS keeps linked through Apple-specific metadata. Getting conversions right means handling .livp packages, HEIC decoding, key-photo timing, and the metadata that decides whether iOS will accept a converted file as a real Live Photo. We build and maintain that pairing logic ourselves, and we document what we learn in our docs, blog, and glossary.

The LivePhoto Camera app

Web browsers cannot save true Live Photos into an iPhone or Android photo library, so for the last mile we also publish LivePhoto Camera, an Android app for shooting, viewing, and editing motion photos. It is available on Google Play.
